Dr Ali Irani, the famous sports medicine authority revealed how grateful he was to the star for the umpteen donations he has made to provide timely treatment to poor, seriously injured accident victims brought to the hospitals for emergency treatments.
A couple of days ago Salman Khan was in the news not for one of his impulsive escapades but for going out of the way to help a child he saw on a wheelchair who needed medical help. It is nothing surprising for those who know the star well. Hospitals in Mumbai are familiar with his acts of kindness but no hospital will talk about it as the star has given strict instructions to them to keep it all away from public knowledge.
Dr Ali Irani , the famous sports medicine authority, once revealed to me how grateful he was to Salman for the umpteen donations he has made to provide timely treatment to poor, seriously injured accident victims picked up from the roads by well meaning people and brought to the hospitals for emergency treatments. Dr Ali spoke to me reluctantly because he knew Salman disliked any talk of his good deeds. On countless occasions the actor has sent out money without asking questions when doctors informed him about emergency operations etc on patients who did not have a penny on them and were fatally injured.
With his characteristic sense of humour, Salim Khan , too , endorsed Dr Ali’s revelation saying : “My son prefers to let his reckless escapades be written about because that is the kind of news that makes news nowadays.”
With five records -smashing blockbusters in his track record of the last five years , Salman Khan is undoubtedly the most successful of the three Khans. As Subhash Ghai explains: “Salman was always scoring hits at the box office but for some reason it is only now that the trade has begun to count the hits he is giving. Perhaps he himself has started taking the importance of the box office figures seriously now.”
Very true if one studies the graph of his successes from 2009 the year that saw his starrer, Wanted break box office records all over the country. Every Salman starrer since then has created new records and set a fresh benchmark for the star himself. But that’s not what makes the actor happy. What makes him happy is the act of giving … and giving unconditionally.
He has announced that the profits from Jai Ho would go to support causes espoused by his Being Human Foundation to help the underprivileged in society. Quietly, unostentatiously he has been doing just that with all his home productions from a long time.
