The actor has shot for Nishikant Kamat’s upcoming film.
After all these years in the industry, Salman Khan is all set to act in a Marathi film for the first time. Helmed by National Award-winning director Nishikant Kamat, the film will see Riteish Deshmukh, who turned producer with a Marathi film Balak Palak earlier this year, make his debut as an actor in the regional industry.
Titled Lai Bhaari, the film is scheduled to be released in December this year. Confirming this Kamat told Mirror: “Salman was gracious enough to show his interest in the project. He has already shot three days with us in Hyderabad. Lets term it as a ‘special appearance.’”
According to sources, Salman will be seen as a typical Maharasthrian. As he came on board at a very short notice, the tailors had to work overtime to put his look together before the star landed on the sets.
Clearly, the Marathi film industry is on a roll. And with Sanjay Jadhav’s Duniyadari holding its fort against SRK’s Chennai Express, this newfound interest in regional cinema has become evident.
Kamat said: “Quality of content is the key. Social networking sites have helped a lot in creating a buzz around Marathi films. However, even I am surprised at the sudden surge of interest for regional films which have got cash boxes ringing at the boxoffice.”
